It is advisable to look through some graphic novels before putting them into your collection. Local comic book dealers are often a good place to start. You can also find a selection of graphic novels at larger book stores such as Barnes and Noble.

Lists of recommended graphic novels for library collection can be found at some of the websites listed in our web resources section and you can always use InterLibrary Loan as another means of checking them out.

Library book vendors such as Baker and Taylor do carry graphic novels but the selection available may not be sufficient. Steve Raiteri, who wrote an article on graphic novel collection development for the ALA website (http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/teenreading/trw/trw2002/collectiondevelopment.htm), recommends Diamond Comics Distributors,“the main comic book distributor in the United States.”
